During the next three months there is a major opportunity to get Ukraine to END its shameful treatment of stray animals.
The Ukrainian government is seeking, with the support of Poland which holds the EU presidency until the end of 2011, visa free travel within the EU and major trade concessions. But, it is offering NOTHING in return. For anyone who knows Ukraine and its leaders this is normal – Ukraine makes many grand speeches promising reform and tackling corruption but never actually allows such reforms to become reality.
Our message to the government of Ukraine will be simple: The citizens of the European Union will not allow you any of the concessions you are seeking until you comply with Western standards of animal welfare.
Here is how you can help:
1) Please write a short letter to your local European Member of Parliament, urging them to support Naturewatch’s campaign. To find out who your MEPs are and their contact details, click here.
2) Please send a letter (Download the letter here) to Mr Bernard Vallat, the Director General of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OiE), requesting his immediate action on Ukraine.
